Cape Wind Project Meets with Obstacles

Comments Off

Construction on the Cape Wind project, a 130 turbine wind farm in Nantucket Sound, may start by the end of this year if all goes according to plans.  The President of Cape Wind Associates, Jim Gordon, hopes to have the wind farm completed by the end of 2012, but also realizes that there are a lot of obstacles in the way, one of which is receiving federal approval for the nation’s first utility-scale offshore wind farm.   Plans for Cape Wind’s operation include the sale of their electricity to utility companies which would purchase the power for use by customers.  Negotiations with National Grid for a long-term contract is still in the works.

“Beige Book” Report for New England reveals signs of Improvement

Comments Off

A recent assessment of New England’s economy revealed somewhat promising results.  The researchers for the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston’s latest “Beige Book”  report showed that pay cuts were being restored, 401(k) matches are coming back, and companies are optimistically busy making expansion plans.  This forward movement of the New England economy is in sharp contrast to last year’s Beige Book report.  It is uncertain whether the economic trends revealing themselves this early in the year will continue, but many manufacturers have reported a strengthened demand for products and software and information technology companies have generally reported solid growth so far in 2010.

Quincy Hospital Hires Transformation Officer to Get back on Track

Comments Off

A new Chief Transformation Officer was hired to help assist Quincy’s hospital in how to optimally use their resources.  The Quincy Medical Center is facing a $4.5 million deficit this year and have hired Paul Angelico to be the Chief Transformation Officer in an effort to implement savings and design plans that will enhance revenue.  Angelico has experience when it comes to successful management of resources, as he founded a oleochemical and biofuel manufacturing company in Quincy in 1994.   Part of Angelico’s plan for success involves reducing bureaucracy by cutting management positions so that decision-making is given more to the employees who have a working understanding of the needs of the public, and forming a new clinical afflation with South Shore Hospital in Weymouth.  Quincy Medical Center is optimistic about the future of new and beneficial changes.
