Braintree MA Condo Construction Resumes

August 31st, 2010 perdisatt Posted in community No Comments »

This month, Pulte Homes started construction on a condominium building at Jonathan’s Landing, which is off Mahar Highway in Braintree MA and will include 36 condo units.  Rendall, a vice president at Pulte, believes that this condo development will be a ‘great fit for Braintree’ and cited that similar developments have seen success in other parts of Massachusetts, as reported to the Patriot Ledger in a recent article.

Development plans have been revised several times, bringing the number of buildings reduced to eight, and the number of units increased to 318 from 304.  Also, some of the planned condos will have one bedroom instead of two, as these smaller condos tend to be more marketable and sell quickly.

New Business-Friendly Laws in MA

August 14th, 2010 perdisatt Posted in South Shore MA business news, community No Comments »

The great casino debate this summer, stemming from whether slot machines or full casinos should be allowed, proved beneficial for businesses in Massachusetts.  Although casino gambling is still being discussed, with plans to be addressed again in 2011, other business-friendly bills have resulted.  These new laws include permit extensions, which would extend most local and state construction permits issued since August of 2008 for another two years, tax breaks for businesses, and a ‘cost relief bill’ that would allow small businesses to band together to purchase insurance, giving them more leverage in negotiating the ever increasing health care costs.

Energy-Efficient Construction in Quincy MA

July 17th, 2010 perdisatt Posted in South Shore MA business news, community No Comments »

With the idea of emphasizing energy-efficient construction, Quincy MA will hold two public hearings about new home construction standards.  These forums will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday at 6:30, with the first meeting focusing on the code’s requirements for commercial construction and the second meeting about residential construction requirements.
Just some of the energy-efficient requirements include thicker insulation and heating systems that use less oil; builders would also be required to hire an energy rater to measure the amount of air that can escape from a building as well as the quality of duct work.

June 28th, 2010 perdisatt Posted in community Comments Off

The South Shore’s Farmer’s markets are growing in popularity this year.  With many local residents visiting farmers markets for the fresh vegetables and fruits available, the Department of Agriculture has reported an increase of 14 more farmer’s markets in the state this year than last.  In the past three or four years the number has doubled.  Because the fruits and vegetables are grown and sold locally, residents enjoy the freshness of the produce and the local economy enjoys a boost.
